Our Vision and Values

Embracing Equity and Access

Equity and access are at the heart of our mission. At Gotham Tech High School, we are committed to ensuring that every child is entitled to opportunities guided by their ambition, purpose, and skills—not by circumstance. Our curricula and spaces are thoughtfully crafted to center students’ developing and evolving identities. We celebrate cultural and ethnic diversity, and we work hard to ensure that our school is a place where every voice is validated and every student experiences a deep sense of belonging.

We aspire to cultivate an environment where:

  • Every student and family is treated with dignity and respect.
  • Students’ voices are heard, valued, and reflected in the decisions that shape their education.
  • Students become co-creators in their own learning journey.
  • Curiosity and creativity are nurtured alongside rigorous skill-building.
  • The school is a mirror of our community’s diverse identities, histories, and dreams.

At Gotham Tech, you are seen. You are supported. You are essential.

Our Approach: Teaching, Learning, and Growing Together

What Makes Gotham Tech Special?

Gotham Tech is not a typical high school. Our staff—teachers, counselors, and administrators—are united by a deep commitment to:

  • Equity: We open doors for those least served by traditional schools, creating opportunities for all.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Our community is strengthened by a wide range of people and ideas. Everyone belongs, and all perspectives are welcome.
  • Engagement: We believe learning should be playful, engaging, and meaningful. We meet students where they are, tapping into their natural curiosities and personal goals.
  • Collaboration: Learning is a team effort. Students, teachers, and partners work together, sharing knowledge and building trust in an environment that is kind, gracious, and expressive.
  • Nurturing Humanity and Ethics: We help each student grow not only as a scholar but as a compassionate and ethical person.
  • Purposeful, Problem-Based Learning: Our instruction is designed to empower students to solve real-world problems and make an impact—in school, in their communities, and in the world.

Our Instructional Philosophy

At Gotham Tech, we believe that children learn best when teaching and learning are:

  • Student-Focused and Personal: Each student is unique, and their learning experience should reflect that.
  • Future-Oriented: We prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of a fast-changing world.
  • Problem-Based: Real learning comes from engaging with real problems.
  • Rooted in Design: Creative problem-solving is at the core of everything we do.
  • Purposeful: Every lesson, project, and activity has meaning and direction.

Our goal? Empower every student to become a designer of their own learning, their own future, and the world they want to see.

Student Support and Community

Mentorship and Guidance

No one succeeds alone. That’s why mentorship is a cornerstone of our school. Every student is paired with a faculty advisor who provides academic and personal guidance, helps set goals, and checks in throughout the year. Peer mentoring is also a big part of our culture: upperclassmen help new students adjust, while everyone is encouraged to help others grow.

Social and Emotional Learning

Your well-being matters. We offer a comprehensive social and emotional learning (SEL) program that builds skills like resilience, empathy, and self-advocacy. Our counselors and wellness staff are always available to support you, and we have partnerships with local organizations to provide resources for mental health, college planning, and more.

Family Engagement

Parents and families are our partners. At Gotham Tech, we recognize that a strong school community is built on close relationships between families, students, and staff. We offer:

All parents and guardians are members of the Gotham Tech PTA. Our PTA is active, welcoming, and always looking for new voices. Partnerships: NYC FIRST

Gotham Tech is proud to be an NYC FIRST Partner School. NYC FIRST is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and empowering young people to engage with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and robotics. Since its founding over 20 years ago, NYC FIRST has worked to bring authentic, creative, and challenging STEM experiences to students all over New York City.

Why this matters:
NYC FIRST helps us keep our curriculum fresh, forward-looking, and relevant. Students benefit from:

  • Access to robotics competitions and technology showcases
  • Visits to the NYC FIRST STEM Center at Cornell Tech
  • Opportunities to work with mentors from STEM industries
  • Internships, workshops, and special events

NYC FIRST was instrumental in the design and launch of Gotham Tech and continues to support our growth as a school focused on innovation and challenge-based learning.
